Business Visas

The Portugal Business Visa is required for individuals traveling to Portugal for professional purposes, including business meetings, client visits, contract negotiations, recruitment, training, and work-related conferences or events.

To qualify for a Business Visa, applicants must provide an invitation letter from a business or company based in Portugal. Without an official business invitation, applicants must apply for a Tourist Visa instead.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A valid passport with at least 90 days validity beyond the return date.
  • Immigration/E-Visa Status and Share Code If holding a C-type UK visa, the application may only be accepted for essential travel, subject to review.
  • The visa is granted for short-term business travel, including conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • The applicant must submit their application to the correct visa processing center based on their place of residence in the UK.

Documents Required

Standard Documentation (Mandatory for All Applicants)

  • Visa Application Form – Fully completed and signed.
  • Valid Passport – Must meet the following conditions:
    • Issued within the last 10 years
    • Valid for at least 90 days beyond your return date
    • Contains at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps
    • Photocopies of previous Schengen visas endorsed in an old passport and issued in the last 3 years, if applicable.
  • UK Residency: Immigration/E-Visa Status and Share Code
    • For holders of a UK Residence Card for EU/EEA family members issued pre-Brexit, provide the share code for your EU Settlement Scheme status.
    • If you do not possess a biometric residence card, provide the share code for either your EU Settlement Scheme status or your immigration status.
  • Recent Photographs – Two passport-sized photos meeting Schengen specifications. Photo Guidelines
  • Travel Insurance – Minimum coverage of €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation, valid for the entire Schengen Area.
  • Proof of Travel – Confirmed booking for transportation, including airplane, train, boat, coach, or hired car (return ticket required).
    • If traveling by car, include car registration, insurance, and ferry or Eurotunnel booking. If the applicant is not the driver, a signed letter from the driver confirming joint travel is needed.
  • Accommodation Proof – Confirmed hotel booking or invitation letter from a host company, mentioning the applicant’s name, travel dates, and accommodation details.

Proof of Funds

  • Bank Statements – Last 3 months showing sufficient funds.
  • Minimum Requirement – ÂŁ50 per day of stay + accommodation & travel costs.
  • Alternative Option – Online bank account printouts are also accepted.

Supporting Documents Based on Profile

For Employed Applicants:

  • Employer Letter – Recent (less than 1 month old) on company letterhead, confirming:
    • Job position, start date, and salary
    • Purpose of the business visit and confirmation of approved leave
  • Last 3 months’ payslips

For Self-Employed Applicants

  • Letter from the Accountant – Confirming self-employment status and financial standing.
  • Business Registration Certificate – Companies House document or solicitor-verified proof of registration.
  • Business Bank Statements – Last 3 months showing business financial activity.
  • HMRC Tax Returns or Accountant-Signed Financial Report – Proof of tax compliance and financial records.

For Students Attending Business Events:

  • University/School Letter –Enrolment letter from school, college, or university, issued within the last month, confirming current enrolment and leave approval.

Business-Specific Requirements

Proof of Business Invitation

  • Original (preferred) or scanned invitation letter from a company in Portugal confirming:
    • Applicant’s name and business purpose
    • Duration and dates of visit
    • Details of travel and/or accommodation arrangements

Proof of Business Activities

  • Documents supporting ongoing or planned business relationships, such as contracts, agreements, or meeting confirmations, if applicable.

Additional Requirements Based on Nationality

For Russian Passport Holders

  • If you hold two Russian passports, bring both to your visa appointment. Provide copies of both passports and all Schengen visas affixed.

For Non-Residents Legally Staying in the UK

  • Visa application can only be submitted for Essential Travel purposes (business, study, family reunification, health, or humanitarian reasons), subject to prior approval from the Mission.

Photo Specifications

Your visa application must include two recent color photographs that meet the following criteria:

  • Taken against a light background (white or off-white).
  • Clear quality, full face, non-smiling, no sunglasses or headwear (unless for religious reasons).
  • Printed on standard photographic paper (no digital copies accepted).
  • Glued onto the Visa Application Form (no staples).

Important: If your photos do not meet the official guidelines, your application will be delayed.

Processing Time & Additional Considerations

  • Standard Processing Time: Minimum 2 weeks
  • Additional Security Clearance: Some nationalities may require 3+ weeks for processing.
  • Busy Travel Seasons (Easter, Summer, Christmas): Expect longer processing times.

  1. Access the Application Form – Download the Schengen Visa Application (PDF format). Download PDF ↓
  2. Fill in Your Details – Ensure all details match exactly as they appear on your passport.
  3. Print Your Completed Form – Select “Print” from the file menu and confirm.
  4. Sign in Two Designated Areas –
    • First Signature – Section 37
    • Second Signature – Under the disclaimer at the end of the form
  5. Submit with Your Supporting Documents – Bring your completed and signed application to your visa appointment.
